New leadership brings optimistic outlooks for CCRC.

County parties are the bedrock of our democracy and their work builds the strong foundations on which honest and qualified candidates are elected, from the chambers of the city halls to the well of the U.S. House of Representatives. That said, the elections for the Board of county parties are incredibly important in the fundamental workings of our great nation. The Coconino County Republican Chair and Board elections were certainly no different. Two candidates emerged on a snowy afternoon inside Mary’s Cafe, Vickie Parks and Wendy Rogers. Each jockeyed for the support of 26 elected precinct committeemen that represent Republicans in Coconino County.

Vickie and Wendy both talked about unifying the party across the county and growing the CCRC group by increasing the number of Precinct Committeemen. Overall, Vickie prevailed and was sworn in after the official count of the ballots was finalized. Looking forward, Vickie wants to work on expanding the Republican message throughout the county, especially at Northern Arizona University and across the reservations. Having a unified party across our large county seemed to be a major concern. To remedy this, both Wendy and Vickie pointed out that a great start to unifying conservatives across the county is by having meetings in different locations throughout the county. In the end, the ultimate goals of the new Chair is to increase the size of our group, bring the conservative message to more youth and members of the reservations, and to increase involvement across the county to help Republicans win elections.

In addition to our new Chair, Vickie Parks, there is a new Board with Daniel Hiel taking the First Vice-Chair position. Daniel has become active in the community immediately after moving here by getting involved with the Trump campaign and wished to continue his service as our only uncontested choice. The new Second Vice-Chair, Doreen Holtje, is a small business owner who gave an empowering speech during the election process about how to increase activity and turnout for Republicans across the county. Karen Henderson, the new Third Vice-Chair has been extremely active in the party and gets a special shout-out for her dedication to the Trump campaign this last cycle; especially her ability to volunteer daily and help coordinate events. Gertrude "Trudy" Wieber retains the position of Treasurer due to the consensus among elected PC members that she was the most capable to do the job. The only piece of business that was left undecided was the tie between (now) former Chair Joan Harris and Ian Logan for the position of Secretary. The new Chair and Board will meet to resolve the tie and declare a new CCRC Secretary.

As of yesterday, this experienced and determined cabinet is officially sworn into office and now carrie out the duties that come with their oaths. Local elections this past November were obviously not favorable to us Republicans and it would be a mistake to assume that the next cycle will be any kinder. The Committee now must focus on creating a strong base and working with candidates and members of the community in order to WIN ELECTIONS. I believe that this group is committed enough to pursue victory and dissemination of Republicanism through the whole of the county and get people involved. We will need to use the allies that we have such as State-Senator-elect and Board Chair candidate Wendy Rogers as well as Jim Parks, Bob Thorpe and Mayor John Moore to pull different demographics to bolster the county committee and through this impact the election in a positive, that is a red wave!
